We are extremely proud of Sebastian O'Banion, a Kennedy Middle School 8th grade student, was a finalist in the South Carolina Radon Poster Contest.  All schools in the state were invited to participate so there was an enormous amount of competition.

He was invited and attended the Awards Ceremony and reception at the State Museum in Columbia on Wednesday, January 21st. His artwork is included in the 2015 Radon Awareness Calendar.

January 26th-29th is Spirit Week
Monday, January 26th - College and Pro Sports Day -Show off your favorite college or professional team by wearing that team's colors and/or clothing. NO HATS.
Tuesday, January 27th - Twin Day (or even triplets) - get together with a friend or friends and see how identical you can be!
Wednesday, January 28th - 80's Day! Wear your favorite fashions from the 1980's!
Thursday, January 29th - Kennedy Pride Day We will be playing Aiken Middle at home that night and having a pep rally that day, so we need to wear as much blue and gold as possible to show support for our basketball players and cheerleaders!

This past summer the S. C. Legislature changed the state testing program.  A new test called Aspire will be given in grades 3 through 8 to test reading, writing, English, math, and science. Students in grades 4-8 will continue to take the SCPASS tests for science and social studies.  The Aspire ELA and math tests will be given on April 28 -30, the Aspire science test on May 5, and the two SCPASS tests will be administered on May 7 and 8, 2015.

The biggest change that our students will notice is that each Aspire subtest has a time limit.  Students will be tested for approximately one hour per day, and the writing test must be completed in 30 minutes.  Some students may not finish before they must stop working and turn in their tests.  Our students are more familiar with the SCPASS tests, which have no specific time limits.  Teachers are currently providing practice for students so that they will become more comfortable with the timed tests.    The two different science tests will allow us to assess our students’ knowledge of the South Carolina science standards while still being able to compare our students’ achievement with their peers nationally.

If your 8th grader will be a student at South Aiken High School next year, there will be a rising freshman orientation at South Aiken High on February 3rd from 6:30-7:30 in the auditorium.
